"0": "Once upon a time, an evil wizard lived in far-away lands. For seven decades he had ruled with an iron fist, murdering all who dared oppose him, until the Gods themselves offered a great reward for his defeat. Then one day, three brothers arrived in the lands. Wizards they were, as they commanded the magical energy surrounding us all. When they visited a local tavern, an old man approached them, telling them about the evil wizard who terrorized the lands. The three brothers listened to the tale, and decided amongst themselves, that they would defeat the evil wizard, and claim the reward. The first of the brothers spoke: \"I am the oldest and wisest of us all - I know every spell ever conceived - how they should be countered - how to prepare for every possibility - and as such, it will be I who will defeat this mage.\" Then he spoke words of magic, and disappeared before his brothers could stop him.\n\nHe arrived in a flash of light in the evil wizard's abode. The wizard turned to face the first brother: \"Who are you, that dare to enter my abode?\" he bellowed. Coldly the brother answered: \"I am your doom - for I have knowledge of all magic in the world, and I can counter all attacks you dare use against me - I challenge you to a duel, and when I have won, I will claim the reward.\" \"Very well, a duel it is\", the wizard snarled, unleashing a mighty fireball. The brother easily recognized the spell, and countered it with barely a thought. The next spell launched upon him was a devastating lighting bolt, which the brother also countered, and the disintegrate that followed suffered the same fate. But as the brother smiled in triumph, the wizard started chanting again - an expression of horror briefly came across the face of the first brother as he realized that he did not know the spell - and then it faded as his head and the rest of his body melted into a pool of liquefied flesh on the floor.\n\nBack in the tavern, the remaining brothers felt a wave of anguish, and they knew that the first brother had perished. Then the second of the brothers spoke: \"Our brother's great knowledge were no match for the wizard. I may not be as skilled as our dear deceased brother in the arts of magic, but I am more clever - I will use my powers to neutralize the wizard's magic, and then, when he has expended his spells against me in futility, I will defeat him.\" Then he spoke words of magic, and disappeared before his remaining brother could stop him.\n\nHe arrived in a flash of light in the evil wizard's abode. The Wizard turned to face the second brother: \"Again I am interrupted! Who are you, that dare to enter my abode?!\" he screamed. Bravely the second brother answered: \"I am your doom - your magics shall not defeat me if I neutralize them!\" He then released his antimagic spell and laughed as the spells of the evil wizard dissipated harmlessly against it. But as he approached the wizard, the wizard laughed and pointed to the ceiling - the second brother looked up, and saw dozens of rusty swords hanging down from a chain in the ceiling. He looked down just in time to see the wizard unleash a lightning bolt upwards. As the chain shattered, the swords fell down towards the second brother, who activated his blink ring - but alas, it did not activate in the field of antimagic. As the second brother was impaled by several lengths of rusty steel, the last he heard was the maniacal laughter of the evil wizard.\n\nBack in the tavern, tears streamed down the third brother's face. \"I have no great skills with either magic nor steel, but I must try to avenge my dear brothers\" he cried, and then he spoke words of magic and disappeared. He arrived with a flash of light in the wizard's abode. The Wizard turned to face the third brother: \"Again?! Tell me then young whelp, what skills do you possess then, that you dare to oppose me?\" he cackled with glee. \"I... have no special skills at magic nor fighting...\" the brother stuttered. \"Foolish boy! Then I shall kill you as I killed your brothers\", the wizard said, and with an evil grin he approached the third brother. It was a terrible fight - the few spells the brother managed to cast were swiftly countered and followed by horrible pain as the wizard used weak but painful spells against him. At last, when the brother lay on the ground, panting and writhing in agony, the wizard smiled triumphantly - \"Hah! Was that all you could do? Then, die, young mageling!\" he laughed, and cast his last spell as the third brother whispered a single word of power, as he rubbed a silver ring on his finger. The mighty energies surged towards the third brother, but then it was as if it hit an invisible bubble of energy... and was turned back towards the evil wizard - a futile scream of pure rage was all he managed, before he was struck by his own spell and collapsed in a puddle of liquefied flesh. \n\nIn that very moment, the abode filled with light, and a beautiful female voice filled the room: \"Well done - you have avoided the three perils of magic. Firstly, no matter how prepared you are, you can never be certain that you know all - magic is dynamic, and any spellcaster with an open mind can shape magic towards his own purposes and create his own spells. Secondly, magic is not the only weapon in this world, and he who forgets the dangers of the non-magical world, will surely perish. Lastly, pride in the use of magic is a foolish thing - if you underestimate an opponent, you will not anticipate his moves, and this can easily become your downfall. Unlike these three mages who lie dead on this floor, you are a true master of magic. As such I choose you to be one of my Chosen. I will restore your brothers to life, so that they can live to tell the three perils of magic to others like them. But for you, I have the greatest reward of all: To serve as my Chosen, to help me spread the knowledge of magic and the correct use thereof to the whole world.\"\n\nAnd with that, the third brother was successful, and the lands were at peace once again.\n\n\n- Unattributed author, excerpt from \"The Foundation of Magic\"",
