Had so much promise...\"\n--------------------------------------------------\n\nLuther Fitzgerald Serprendoc was born to Malcolm and Lydia Serprendoc 23 years ago, the youngest of three brothers. His family happened to be one of, if not THE, wealthiest, longest standing, and most influential in the brief history of Riverthrow. Despite what other children and their families think, however, his was not quite the life of plush leisure as one would think.\n\nBeing devote members of Lathander's flock, Malcolm and Lydia decided that their youngest child would excel among the local youth, just as his two elder brothers did in their day, AND he would be molded to be the most promising and talented young layman of their time. Luther never really had time to play with the other children, and was frequently urged not to. On some occasions, he even was reprimanded for stooping so low as to keep company with the more unruly specimens of his generation. Or, for that matter, that old quack, Vanthar. No, most of Luther's childhood was spent either perfecting certain social skills, such as academics and skills in certain approved musical instruments, or burning the principles and literature of his faith into his mind and heart.\n\nOf course, that's not to say that some of the high aspirations and social views of his parents didn't rub off on the boy, in his younger years. Indeed, he was often seen as a snobby and spoiled, if oddly high-strung and incapable of dealing with failure, in the eyes of his peers. Concerning encounters with various religions of the world, in the little town, Luther always responded with the most fervor, and prided himself on being the foremost in knowledge of the gods among, children close to his age. All the chatter and occasional story he heard from Vanthar about adventures, sword-swinging, and arcane magics were rubbish (or so his parents insisted)- it was only stories of the gods that counted, as only the gods truly matter in the world. And one in particular, above all the rest.\n\nBy age 17, Luther left Riverthrow as an acolyte of Lathander, with the high hopes and expectations of both parents riding on his shoulders. He went south, to Amn, to aid the branch of his religion that had taken foothold in the Land of Intrigue. Shortly thereafter, however, contact seemed to dwindle with his family, and by a year's time, ended all together. It's not clear, exactly, what went on the next five years. All that can be gathered in more recent times is that Luther either left the clergy of Lathander, or was cast out, and lived as a lone vagrant, moving from one town of Amn to the next.\n\nIn recent months, Luther had resurfaced in the Western Heartlands. Periodically showing up in Riverthrow from time to time- but only long enough to climb into a bottle at the local tavern and move on before his parents catch wind of his visits- one would think the 23 year old man a mere shell of the proud lad that grew up in the village. While he was always tall for his age, malnutrition has taken its toll on his body, making him seem all the lankier. His once well groomed, raven-black hair is almost always messy now, and his stubble-riddled face seems to have gone a few months since using a good, sharp razor. The only pastimes he enjoys partaking in now, other than losing himself in drinking, are playing the yarting (guitar) he aquired from Amn, or taking bets in a game of darts. He has become a bitter, sardonic man, who remains aloof, especially in the face of the society he grew up around. A blatant failure in the eyes of his parents and their friends, it is a wonder why he would chose to return home."
