Being the son of Markus and Evelyn Talmaris, a struggling merchant family who lived in Riverthrow for much of Edwin's young life, it would take some time for Edwin to eventually converse and finally socialize with others, and yet he still seemed out of place. Even as he got older, he could not connect with the others, still feeling in his heart that he had to constantly prove himself to those he spent time with. Hearing the tales of the grand adventures that the old sage Vanthar used to tell him as a child got him to constantly imagine that it was HE who was that daring knight everyone admired and as a small child, he promised himself, that his 'great' deeds would prove to everyone of his worth... \n\nBut the visions of grandeur suddenly faded one day when he was 12 upon reaching old Vanthar's house and found that the old man was leaving for a funeral. Not entirely understanding what it was, Vanthar agreed to let the young boy come with him and upon reaching the procession, Edwin discovered that the funeral was for a knight of the god Helm. He watched as a solitary figure performed a curious ritual at the local cemetary in which he performed a rite of passage for the knight to journey safely into the afterlife. It was at this moment that Edwin realized that even great heroes fall and pass from this world, although at the time, he did not entirely understand the concept. This realization still changed the young boy' s perception of life and death and made him more aware, but no less vigilant in his 'dreams' of becoming a 'great knight.' \n\nThis would change when Edwin's father got a contract to work in the large city of Scornubel when he was 15. Although, Edwin was looking forward to moving to the big city, he was still apprehensive since he would be leaving everything that he had known since he could remember. The journey was a long one and as the family was near their destination, Edwin's life would never be the same...A group of bandits ambushed the family as they rested for the night, and Edwin watched in horror as they were robbed of nearly of their possessions, culminating with Edwin being forced to watch as the bandits killed his mother and father in front of his eyes. But before the bandits could end Edwin's life as well , one of the group suddenly screamed in horror as his body collapsed to the ground, and amidst Edwin's tears and anguish, he saw a white clothed man mutter a chant whereas the rest of the bandits then ran off in terror just as he fell unconscious. \n\nAs he awoke, he found himself at a tree clearing near the road that he was traveling just the day prior. Bandaged but still scarred, he found himself in the company of a priest that he recognized to be the very same cleric who performed the rite of passage for the fallen Helm knight when Edwin was younger. Trying to sooth Edwin of the shock of the previous events, the old cleric identified himself as Asimon, a priest of Kelemvor, Lord of the Dead. Taking pity upon the boy for losing his family in a shocking act of cruelty, the old priest decided to take him in and let him stay in his humble temple to Kelemvor in Scornubel. \n\nIn the five years since that fateful day, Edwin went on to become Asimon's apprentice and would soon prove to be a very promising cleric in training. With a sad heart, Asimon would sometimes catch Edwin praying late at night trying to communicate with his parents through the divine. And it was true that the horror of watching the brutal killing of his parents scarred Edwin deeper than even Asimon could ever know. It was only in Kelemvor's teaching that calmed his thirst for vengence as he realized that death was only another journey that his parents would take. \n\nNow at the age of 20, many of the traits that defined him as a child still linger but the events of that one fateful day on the way to Scornubel changed him from a shy boy who never spoke up to one that always speaks his mind. In his heart, he curses himself for not being able to tell his parents how he felt before they died. Yet he is still constantly trying to prove himself not only to others but himself. Edwin has dedicated himself to Kelemvor's cause and wishes one day to become a Doomguide in the Lord of the Dead's service. \n\nAnd thus when Asimon told him of old Vanthar's death, the old priest decided that the time for Edwin's first 'act of guidance' would come for Vanthar as Asimon had become too old to make the long journey back to Riverthrow. Now, Edwin journey's back to his past, of happier times in a village that brings back many bittersweet memories. Yet he will have to push them aside as he is there to peform the 'rite of passage' for a man he considered as another father. Old Vanthar would be missed... \n"
